Stocking fish at Llyn Elsi,

This picturesque lake is situated to the south west of the village and has panoramic views of Moel Siabod. Access via road is from the Forest Road at Maes Newyddion off the A5 before reaching the Swallow Falls.

It is stocked principally with American Brook Trout ,varying in size from 8 to 14 inches, with fish of 2lbs + being introduced at various times each season.

Native Brown trout are also stocked in sizes from 8 to 14 inches.

Junior Member Sarah caught this magnificent Brown Trout last Saturday (21st April ) on a worm at Elsi. Her trout was 16 inches in length.

Only bank fishing is allowed , no boats or float tubes. There is excellent Car Parking and access to the lake on foot has been improved tremendously by hard stone paths.

Here are some of last seasons catches .

The access route to these two lakes is shortly to be changed. Instead of going through Glyn Farm as at present , the new route will by turning by the Ugly House and taking the first left Forest Road.

Once the signs for this route are in place and the road works completed we will be asked to use this new route. Watch this space for the change over date. Please use the Glyn Farm route until you hear further. Please be aware that this route is also shared by the Marin Trail Mountain Bike route, and a key code lock will be in operation

    Boat house

These two lakes are situated to the north west of the village, and access is by forestry road

turning directly right by the Army Camp near Capel Curig.

Both lakes are stocked with brown trout which naturalise very quickly on the excellent food sources in the lakes. The margins have excellent weed and plant growth making it ideal conditions for nymph fishing.

Wading is a necessity and a wading staff is very helpful as some areas are very rocky and slippery. From this season 2005 a rowing boat kindly donated by The Welsh Canoe Society and Nant Bwlch yr Haen Outdoor centre is available to fish Llyn Goddion Duon. Please contact the Secretary for details, key to boathouse . At present the boat is available .

It was also proposed at the AGM that Float tubes could be used only on Llyn Goddionduon ,provided that they were privately owned and that the owners took their own responsibility for them

This is a typical nice wild brownie taken on a black nymph, just after the season opened in March 2003
