Sian has asked me to put up this link which will take you off our site and take you to the Atlantic Salmon Trust site, which is very useful to identify all the types of Salmon & Sea Trout etc . To get back to our pages keep pressing the back button on your browser. The pictures below show some of the fish caught in the Pont-y-Pair Pool.
If you have any more pictures of your catches this season please email them to me at bentref@postmaster.co.uk
Please don't forget to post in your catch returns for the season for both lakes and rivers before 31st October The club leases fishing on parts of the Conwy and Llugwy. The Conwy beat starts at the Waterloo Bridge fishing the Left hand bank downstream from the bridge. There are several small pools worth exploring before reaching a long slow running pool known as the Church Pool. The head of this pool is good for Sea Trout after dark. The rest of the pool is suitable for float fished shrimp or prawn and for worm and spinning in high water. The bottom end of this pool has a newly constructed fishing platform of local slate, from which spinning in a flood will give good results. Moving on downstream the next pool is Stepping Stones which tends to hold fish under the opposite bank . In low water float fished shrimp can be productive , whilst worm ,fly and spinning come into their own during high water. The tail of the pool is best spun when the flood water is clearing. Immediately below is a short run and the Shingle Pool which has a good fly run and can be spun in suitable water conditions. Below this pool is a very fast rapid followed by a long section of good fly water. Sea Trout can be caught after dark , but during the day times Salmon can be had with the fly. In very low water a shrimp can be productive, whilst in flood a worm fished close to the near bank may produce fish. Towards the tail of this run is a groin the proximity of which is again good for night Sea Trout . Below the groin is a long deep pool known as Halls Pool, which tends to hold fish close to the trees. The pool is best fished with a shrimp or in high water a spinner , the tail of the pool being very productive in a flood. The next pool down is Pearsons. It is the last true pool on the beat, which has a long shingle bank, which tends to change each year . Some fish hold in the pool which is best fished with a worm or spinner. The beat ends where the rivers Conwy and Llugwy converge, The Meetings , this area can produce fish to the worm or spinner.
River Llugwy
The beat starts at its downstream end The Meetings. Moving Upstream the right hand bank ( looking downstream) may be fished as far as the railway bridge. From here on upstream both banks can be fished for approximately 2.5 miles up to the Swallow Falls. The principal features on the river up to where it is crossed by road in the Village Centre are Viaduct Pool, Farm Pool, and Royal Oak Run. These fish well in a flood from both banks with a shrimp being successful after a flood . The Royal Oak Run can be successfully fished in a flood with a worm under the Hotel side bank. Above the run is another pool of approximately 150 yards which best fishes with a worm in a flood and also has some potential for a fly. At the top of this pool is a newly constructed weir that forms the upper limit of the water available to the visiting angler. Fishing can re-commence above the small weir that is directly above Fir Tree Island, where fish can be observed running upstream to the spawning grounds above . From here up to Swallow Falls there are a number of pools and small runs that hold fish particularly towards the end of the season. The large deep pool above Miners Bridge known as Llyn Ddu is however closed to all methods of fishing by Environment Agency Bylaw.
